Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Should A Third Degree Burn Be Dried To Alleviate Infection?
I went to the doctor last week, he diagnosed my burn as a third degree burn. Told me to keep it clean, covered and moist with burn gel or aloe Vera. He gave me antibiotics as it s infected. It s only about 1/4 inch round, from 290 degree hot candy splashing up onto my arm. Because the infection is not going away, should I be trying to dry it out? Something is wrong. He did say it would take weeks to heal.
As it is third-degree burn means a deep burn, so it may take weeks to heal. Continue antibiotics as prescribed. Keep it clean. Apply Neosporin H powder locally. Do proper dressing on a daily basis. Take proper diet. You can take tablet chymoral forte for better healing. If any discharge from wound and not healing, start IV antibiotics after consultation and send pus culture report. I will suggest you review here with detailed history or consult with the surgeon.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Shyam B. Kale
