Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My doctor has prescribed me metrogyl 400 and said in the consult that it is a 5 day course, yet I went to fill the script and I am taking 3 tablets a day for 7 days. what is correct? should I call my doctor? is the rule to finish every single tablet?
Metrogyl tablet contains metronidazole that is an antibiotics which is used to treat infections caused by bugs which don't need oxygen to grow and multiply, like tooth abscesses, abdominal infections, leg ulcers, bacterial vaginal infections etc. It works by usually killing or stopping the growth of bugs. The dose and duration of Metronidazole will be different for different people, depending on the type of infection and your age.
The usual dose in adults is 400mg for 5-10 days. But your dose may be more or less than this. Your doctor will advise you on how long to take Metronidazole for (usually for 5-10 days). For some infections like bacterial vaginosis, Metronidazole can be given a single, larger dose of five 400 mg tablets (2gm) to take at once.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
