Should I Be Worried About The Big Hard Lump On The Scar Where There Had Been Fifteen Stitches Six Months Ago?

After being bit by our our out bull, my husband had about 15 stitches and was on crutches for over 2 months while the inside if his leg began to start an infection. You couldn't tell from looking at it but after such a long time of not healing, walking wise, I thought we may want to check it out. Now it's all healed and infection is gone, he did rehab and was walking normal shortly after 3 month on crutches and rehab. This was 6 months ago, time of attack. Since, there has been a massive baseball sized lump, where his scar remains. What is that lump? Should we be worried?

Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hi there,

Thanks for your query.

The hard lump may be due to collection (under the superficial layers of the skin) and solidification of either, pus, inflammation-induced secretions or, clotted blood.

There is nothing to worry about, since there are no symptoms of infection.

Consult your doctor and apprise him of my opinion. I am certain that he will agree with me. He will examine your husband, may even put a needle inside the lump to extract fluid if any, get the aspirated fluid/tissue analyzed and- based on the report- will advise you accordingly.

If you find my response helpful and informative, do not forget an “excellent” (5-star rating) to my answer, to ENCOURAGE ALL doctors- engaged in social service- to render sound advice to the FREE queries.

Take care
