Should Doxepin Be Weaned Off Before Ceasing It Completely?

I am taking sertraline100 mg and have been for6 months or so. Now I have been started on Doxepin 10 mg. However, I WANT TO STOP TAKING THE DOXEPIN BECAUSE THEY SEEM TO AFFECT ME NOT IN A GOOD WSAY. DO I NEED TO GRADUALLY STOP THEM, OR CAN I JUST STOP THEM ALL AT ONCE.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

You're are very right. Doxepin can have some adverse effects that would be causing discomfort. People who are on large doses of this drug for long use, we generally advise to tapper the drug, however 10 mg is not a big dose and it can be stopped at once. However, it should be stopped with the consultation of your own doctor. You can discuss the problem caused by the drug and hopefully he would give you a better alternative if needed. Once your doctor agrees, 10 mg dose can be stopped at once it not a big dose.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
