General & Family Physician 's  Response
Dear Patient,
I totally understand your concerns about the side effects of this medication.
but the following points should be taken into consideration:

1- in the case of weak heart muscle, it is highly recommended to take a beta-blocker such as caverdilol, because studies have shown that this decreases the stress on the heart, by decreasing the heart rate, and hence preventing the heart from getting tired and in need for oxygen.
2- The other reason why you should take this medication is that caverdilol will prevent arrhythmia (abnormal cardiac electrical activity) that is very prevalent in patients with weak heart muscle, and hence preventing sudden death.
3- I know that the side effects of beta-blockers can be bothering but they are very mild compared to the benefit of taking this medication.

Along with it,
1- it is also recommended to take an ACE inhibitor such as linisopril to prevent remolding of the heart and protect your kidneys from damage due to diabetes.
2-It is also recommended to take aspirin due to the fact that you are diabetic with heart problem.
3- Testing your lipid levels (cholesterol and triglyceride) is also essential, and taking a statin is also important to prevent a lot of vessel damage in your case.

Best Regards
