Short Term Memory Lapse. History Of Heart Attack. Taking Low Dose Lipitor. Should Medicine Be Continued?

My 92 year old father, who lives independently, is experiencing significant short term memory lapses. He was put on lipitor, had terrible muscle pain, was taken off, then put back on at a lower dosage. Other then the usual old person ailments (prostrate issues, arthritis, very poor hearing) he is in good shape. Saying that, he does seem to be in decline. He did have a heart attack about 5 years ago. It was probably brought on by the stress and change in diet brought on by my mothers death 2 years before her suffered the blockage and then received 2 stents. My question concerns the memory issues. How does one gauge when it is a problem more then age related and is the lipitor worth the pain it causes him?

Hi,
From history of your father it seems that he might have age related memory loss due to Cerebro-bacillar insufficiency.
Lipitor is Atorvastatin and given for cholesterol problem.
He can continue with.
There is another possibility of having Alzymer's disease where there is gradual loss of memory.
Consult Neurophysician and get examined.
Ok and take care.
