Recently, for the past few months, I have been experiencing very bad constipation despite the fact I eat lots of fruits, vegetables, drink lots of water and take a stool softener. My stool is pebble-like and there sometimes mucous streaked with a little blood. I have had regular colonoscopies. Three years ago was my last. I had a colonoscopy & virtual because they couldn't go high enough because of a contorted intestine. All showed no polyps or abnormalities. Should I see my gastroenterologist before my next colonoscopy? I have to go every 5 years because I had a polyp years ago. Nothing since. I am a female, 66 years old. I also had rectocele surgery when I was about 50 years old.
