Reason For Having A Red Zone On Half Of Tongue With No Burning Sensation And Normal Blood Test

I have a red zone on my tongue half an inch wide by an inch long in the front upper part of the tongue towards the front. It feels raw and has been for over a month now. No burning nor tingling. Acid or spicy food do not aggravate the sensation. Blood test made last month normal.

Greetings from health care magic!!! I am Dr Thakker and shall be answering your question.

I would think of the following possible differentials for your condition:

1) Geographical tongue: Here an area of tongue looks raw due to lack of papillae. this is a normal variant and we don't have to treat it.

2) Traumatic glossitis: this can be from a tooth impinging on the tongue and causing trauma and inflammation of the frictional area.

3) Vitamin B complex vitamin deficiency. This can be corrected by taking an OTC multivitamin capsule for a month.
