Prolonged Toothache. No Help From Antibiotics. Solution?

Hi I have had a toothache for several days. Today being the worse. This makes the 2nd time this tooth has hurt. Last time I made 3 trips to the emergency room. The doctor said it wasn't abscessed so they gave me a pain shot and sent me home. A couple days after the er visit I got antibiotics. My tooth that wasn't swollen then swelled after taking the antibiotics.

Dear friend.

Thanks for sharing your concern.

As per your history,it appears that you have developed deep dental caries(tooth decay)Therefore it is causing so much pain on and off.Presently your tooth is behaving like a closed chamber.

pain killers and antibiotics can give you temporary relief, but for permanent treatment you need proper evaluation.so visit your dentist.

An x ray can show you underlying pathology and further, it can be treated through root canal treatment.

Also you have experienced swelling after taking antibiotics, that is because the pus is localized now and it requires immediate drainage.

Therefore please do not ignore ,if the symptoms subsides temporarily.go for compete treatment.meanwhile do warm saline rinsing.

Hope this information is helpful to you.

Thanks.

Take care.

Hello,

Thanks for posting your query.

Cause of toothache has to be evaluated clinically as well as radiologically by a dentist.

Take complete course of diclofenac and amoxycillin tablets as per dentist's prescription.

Decayed teeth has to be restored/root canal treated.

Grossly decayed teeth has to be extracted.

If tooth is periodontally compromised, get deep scaling and curettage done.

Take care.

Hi,
Thanks for the query,
Pain in teeth can be due to deep caries, for which root canal treatment or extraction is the option.
Periodontitis is another reason for pain , for which scaling and root planing is the treatment.
Ask your dentist for x-ray of that tooth to rule out if there is proximal caries/ pocket causing food lodgement and ultimately causing pain.
follow your prescription and maintain oral hygiene.
Take care

hi...
thanks for the query...
medications only is not complete treatment... cause of the pain has to be ruled out... most probably, its deep caries and infection that has to be cleared... either by root canal treatment or extraction if tooth is grossly carious...
hope it will help you...
take care...

Dear friend.

Thanks for sharing your concern.

Your history suggests that you have developed deep dental caries called pulpitis.

Though, it may appear normal from outside but a micro leakage can also cause lot of pain in that case.your tooth is acting like a close chamber and wants to push the pus out, which is built up there due to infection.

Therefore i would suggest you to visit your dentist and get x ray done and then subsequently get the root canal treatment done too. Also avoid repeated usage of antibiotics.

Hope this helps.

Thanks.

Takecare.
