Pregnancy Scan Showing Cyst In The Brain And Fatty Mass In The Back Of The Fetus. Any Advice?
my daughter is 33 weeks pregnant and she had to go for a level two ultrasound yesterday. The reason being was to check the baby weight, he is 4 lbs 6 oz.. The baby had a previous lil cist in his brain but the dr said it wasnt there anymore and that this is common now a days. looking further into the ultrasound the dr said the babys active as can be his spine looks great, brain looks great and heart looks great but then he seen a mass on the babys lower back but it wasnt attached to anything, he sais this was a good thing that it wasnt attached. the dr said it could be a fatty tumor and that it would be checked immediately after the baby is born. any insight on this?
Hello.
Thanks for writing to us.
The free mass at the back of the baby could be a fatty mass. It is difficult to guess the nature of the mass unless its connections are not known. The mass can only be evaluated on a follow up scan after 4 weeks or after the birth of the baby.
