To start testing for the latter, he should have an Antinuclear antibodies test, and the lab should be asked to do it by the IFE method, because the default multiplex method gives false negatives in scleroderma patients 43% of the time. To test for the former, he'll nee an immunofixation and electrophoresis testing of blood.
