Plastic Surgery Done On Nose To Remove Basal Cell Carcinoma. More Discovered. Any Alternative To Surgery?
Hi! Yes, hopefully you can help. I have had plastic surgery flap done on my nose recent past to removed basal cell carcinoma. Now they have discovered more of it on the bridge of my nose, and I'd like to know whether you can suggest any alternative to actually surgery again. Thanks, Janice. My e-mail address is: YYYY@YYYY
A recurrence tumour of basal cell carcinoma are usually aggressive tumours. Thus it is better to re-excision with good and deep surgical clearance.
But some other treatments options are available. 1. Curettage and cautery 2. Cryosurgery 3. Carbon dioxide laser 4. Topical immunotherapy with imiquimod 5. Photodynamic therapy 6. Radiotherapy
I would suggest you to go for surgery. Because results and prognosis are better with surgery after excision with wide margin.
Please go for Moh's micrographic surgery as it involves the side by side examination of resected margins under the microscope for healthy margins without cancer cells.
Hope this helps. Take care.
