Persisting Tenderness In The Finger, Internal Bruise On The Site Of Finger Prick For Blood Donation. Is This Normal?

Hi Dr. Galamaga! I donated blood to Red Cross last week and as normal protocol they pricked my finger to check my hemoglobin . Days after the finger stick, my finger is still tender and there seems to be an internal bruise near the site. The surface of the skin in that area seems to be tougher than usual. Is this a normal reaction?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
It seems that due to prick there might be having some bleeding under the skin giving rise to bruise and some hardness.
Apply ice pack for 2-3 days and you will be alright.
If pain and swelling appears then go for one short antibiotic mediciine course.
Ok and take care.
