Pain Behind Rib Cage, Painful To Inhale. Need For Concern?

i am feeling some pain behind my upper rib cage on the right side. not really severe but the pain increases when i in-hale. i felt this first this morning or possibly yesterday...but it subsided today and didn t notice it again until bedtime. this is very new and not sure if it is something to be concerned about unless it persists.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

Based on the description of symptoms, I suspect Intercostal muscle pull which might have caused pain in the rib cage. Generally, this is a self limiting condition and resolves spontaneously.

As you are symptom free presently, there is nothing to worry about it. Just avoid lying or putting pressure on the symptomatic side.

If your symptoms recur with similar presentation, consult your family physician for an evaluation.

Hope this information is helpful. Good day
