On prednisone - 5mg for 11 days- W/descending dose - starting 4 tabs 2X/day for 3 days--- 4 tabs daily for 3 days ---- 3 tabs daily X3 days ----- 2 tabs daily X3 days, etc. Quit after 11 days, because roof of mouth became really sore (lost a layer of membrane on whole left side!) Total knee replacement (last June, 015). Surgeon has cautioned about infections, and sore mouth brings concerns, which prompted me to quit the prednisone. Today, PM, I looked in mirror and nose is covered and shiny with oil! Scalp has been unusually oily for several days. My Google search for prednisone causing oily discharge has prompted me to join this site. I read a question on the same subject from 2012, and member's correspondence dismissed the idea. My experience shows me that this (exuding oil) is, indeed, quite possible. I have an appointment in the morning with my family doctor, and anticipate that she will likely put me on an antibiotic to try and avoid any possible infection of the knee coming from the mouth sores. What confirmation - advice can you give me as to my assumptions and course of action?
Thank you:
Dick Wells
