No Antibiotics Taken After Mild Bout Of Mycoplasma But Cough Persist. How Long Will It Continue?

Hi I think I had a mild bout of mycoplasma about 3 or 4 weeks ago (I live in Singapore where it is very common) and did not get antibiotics for it as it was only mild. However the cough is still persisting, is this normal and how long might it continue? Thanks

Hello,
Welcome to HCM,
Most people recover completely even without antibiotics, although antibiotics may speed recovery.
In untreated patients, cough and weakness can persist for up to a month.
For my patients I would have advised
1.If fever control your fever with NSAIDs
2.Do not take cough medicines without first talking to your doctor. It will make it harder for your body to cough up the extra sputum.
3.Drink plenty of fluids to help loosen secretions and bring up phlegm.
4.Get a lot of rest.
Thank you.
