Need Treatment For Pain Due To Costochondritis

Hi I have been diagnosed with costocondritis since I was 18 years old and am now 22. My doctor told me that it was due to inflammation and that I should take some anti-inflammatory medicine to help with the pain. More recently that has not been enough and the pain/ discomfort is getting very bothersome. could there be something else wrong? Is the medication just not strong enough for the pain I am experiencing?

Thanks for your question on HCM.
In my opinion you should get done following tests to rule out other possible causes.
1. S.ANA level to rule out connective tissue disease (CTD)
2. Chest x ray to rule out lung pathology.
3. Ultrasound examination of local part to rule out any skin and subcutaneous pathology.
If all are normal then probably you are having costochondritis only.
Only drugs will not help you. Try to follow all these too for better symptomatic relief.
1. Avoid heavyweight lifting
2. Avoid strenuous exercise.
3. Avoid movements causing pain.
4. Apply warm water pad on affected site.
