What Causes A Sudden Decline In Physical Activities In Elderly Patients?
My mother in law is concerned her husband might have had a mini stroke a couple months ago. He is 76 and has had a pretty rapid decline in physical abilities beginning 2-3 months ago. Shuffles when walks, very slow to stand, swelling in left hand, seems overall much weaker. He has a primary doc but not interested in seeing him. Mother in law wondered today if he had a TIA and was asking if there is a test to see if he had a stroke. I am seeking direction for how to perhaps advise her to proceed for her husbands health. thank you so much. Carrie

A test to check for strokes is a brain scan (MRI or CT). Generally, TIAs do not show in brain scans but if there are important strokes or brain atrophy that might justify the decline, these can be easily noticed, especially in an MRI.
