My Husband Had Hernia Surgery Last December. He Continues To

My husband had hernia surgery last December. He continues to have pain in the area of his incision as well as across his whole lower abdomen at times. We went back to the surgeon for an injection to relieve the pain and the paid is still there. He was prescribed Gabapentin 300 mg and it taking 2 in the am, 1 at noon and 2 in the pm. The doctor who prescribed the gabapentin said it may take up to 15 months before the pain goes away. Scans show no other causes, so it is assumed it is a nerve. Are there any topical creams that could be used to deaden the pain?
