My Husband (age 86) Has Constipation After A Femoral Hernia

My husband (age 86) has constipation after a femoral hernia operation as well as an ongoing kidney stone removal procedure. He feels totally blocked up. At the hospital they gave him a prescription for 'Senokot'. Home remedies have included 'Metamucil' and insertion of 'Preparation H' suppositories, which he is no longer able to insert due to swollen tightness. He has taken 'Flomax' for his enlarged prostate for years.
He is disappointed with several visits to the hospital as they seem to address only one problem at a time: i.e. urinary or hernia related. Please respond ASAP because he feels neglected by the medical profession
