My Father Was Prescribed 80 Mg Lipitor, Then A New

My father was prescribed 80 mg Lipitor, then a new doctor told him he only needed to be taking 40 mg. He started taking that, and then on his own cut it down to 20 mg. His cholesterol levels are coming back good, however, he has also had 2 heart attacks and hasn't checked with a doctor about reducing the dosage. What are the adverse affects?
