Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My father is 82 and hurt his back last Thursday. He had it x-rayed yesterday and it looked Ok. MD said everything else was good too. He has a history of diverticulitis and 30 years ago, a ruptured colon with double-barrel colostomy which was repaired. He is severely constipated, has not had a "good BM" for probably a week. Poor diet, eats very little, but he has used 2 mag citrate type laxatives. His primary care MD ( not the one who saw him yesterday at an Urgent Care Center) does not have admitting privileges. Question: Should he go to Emergency Room or try to walk a little bit and wait until later this morning?
