My doctor is putting me through Cystoscopy and CT Scan (like standing in front of X-ray radiation 1000 times) with Iodine based dye. I am otherwise healthy male, 41 years old,non-Caucasian. I went to visit a Urologist after dull ache in the scrotum. Ultrasound came normal with benign cyst. He recommended me to go for 3 urinalysis spanning 3 months, starting August. My annual physical in June-15 was almost normal both for blood work and Urine cultures.Uric Acid was borderline high.
The first Urinalysis in Aug-15 was completely normal. The second one in September had 3-10 RBCs w/o any WBC or protein. Because of one incident of microscopic blood, he is hellbent on putting me through dangerous CT scans. I am fine with Cystoscopy. He essentially wants to rule out any malignancy of Kidney and Bladder. But for a 41 yr, non-Caucasian with no history of UTI or family history of Bladder Cancer,is he not overreacting? I told him about my frequent urination which I am experiencing since the age of 24 and symptoms have remained the same. He might as well check for enlarged prostrate/BPH. Non-smoker, and no known contacts with benzene or industrial carcinogens. I hardly eat red-meat and dairy. Any suggestions?
