My Doctor Increased My Losartan Potassium Tablet From 25 Mg

My doctor increased my Losartan Potassium tablet from 25 mg once/day to 50 mg. He said to take my remaining 25 mg tablets twice/day until they are gone. Our insurance won't pay for 2 tablets/day if there is a 50 mg tablet available. Is it okay to cut the 50 mg tablet in half and take it twice/day, to spread the effects of the drug throughout the day and to minimize any possible adverse side effects?
