My Daughter, Age 39 And Over Weight, Had Her Thyroid

My daughter, age 39 and over weight, had her thyroid surgically removed about 16 years ago. This morning during an annual physical she was found to have an elevated heart rate with BP, 124/83. Her family doctor ran an ECG in the office and saw no significant signs of heart problems. The same doctor did however refer our daughter to a cardiologist to have him/her review the ECG.
My question, can the absence of her thyroid cause this elevated heart rate?
