My 90 Year Old Mother Has Been Suffering For 8

My 90 year old mother has been suffering for 8 months with an eye problem. Years ago she was diagnosed with Sjogren Syndrome. But this is the worst for a long time. We’ve gone to optometrist and opthamologist. There are no infections and the diagnosis has been dry eyes. She’s been drinking water, applying compresses, using different kinds of eye drops, using humidifier, etc. The Dr told her to make sure to use preservative free drops however she says they don’t help. Her one eye stays shut most of the day. The other eye feels scratchy. She’s unable to read, watch TV, etc so is very depressed. I’m at my wits end....is there something else that could be the problem such as the eyelid muscles? Or something else to try for dry eyes?
