Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 82 year father has had an infection in a lumbar disc diagnosed 4 months ago. About 5 weeks ago he had a clot in one or possibly both legs. He is on Eliquis after receiving a heparin drip in the hospital. He now has several superficial clots in his leg and his foot is swollen. He has hip and leg pain down into his toes that awakens him several times every night. It is so painful it is difficult for him to walk. The pain in his back is gone which was severe for two months. He has had 3 stays in 3 different hospitals and also 6 weeks as inpatient rehab. He is now in outpatient rehab. His hip, leg and foot pain on the one side is now lasting during the day and is worse at night when he lies down. He has recently been placed back on a Fentanyl patch and he may have an epidural placed. Could this be caused by a permanent nerve injury or a circulation problem that could eventually resolve or could he be on pain medication forever. He also is taking Celebrex twice daily as well as Tylenol 3 g/day. He is seeing his family physician and his neurologist. I feel that he needs an internist as well. I am a hospital pharmacist. Please give me your opinion. Thank you.
