My 4 year old son has been sick for about 3 days. Symptoms include vomiting, fever, stomach and throat/neck pain, swollen tonsils and glands, bloody noses, and trouble swallowing. I took him to ER last night for difficulty breathing, he was given an oral steroid to reduce swelling in his throat and neck, and was swabbed for strep. The rapid test came back negative, but we do not have lab tests back yet (and I don't know that the nurse got a good swabbing because my son was freaking out and the swab looked dry to me when she pulled it out). 3 years ago my son presented with similar symptoms, was sent home, and then woke up the next morning with a golf ball size lump on the side of his neck. He was rushed for emergency surgery and they drained 16 cc of pussy liquid from his neck. There was no wound anywhere on his skin to indicate the infection was due to a skin abrasion etc. Any ideas on what this could be? Possibly just a virus, but I am nervous since it is exactly what happened before...
