Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 21 yr old son has been diagnosed with Mono . He has presented symptoms since Wed 30 Dec.. His tonsils are so swollen (kissing tonsils) he couldn't breathe Sunday night so we had to go to the ER. That actually is when we had the blood test prove he had Mono. They had ruled out Strep from the family practice Dr by Sat with the culture being negative. He is on 60mg of Predisone daily . Told he can take Tylenol for pain. Told he can take benedryl is he cannot sleep (but with the Predisone kicking in he has less scare of choking and can relax to sleep for the most part). He has a Lidocaine compounded mouth wash prescribed he can rinse with 6 times daily from our follow up appt with an ENT Tues this week. Today he feels achey (like flu) and I noticed his finger nails are very GRAY . In reading about Mono the symptoms I just described to you are all part of Mono. But the involvement of the liver /kidneys is now my concern with his very gray nails. He is cold he said. i didn't take his temperature. He has sweated in the night he said. Please address whether we should follow up with a Family practice Dr about his affected kidneys/liver . He had cocacola colored urine Sat morning which has NOT reoccurred since. He is drinking fluids and his urine looks like a good clearer color. Thank you for your time. I have never used this sight. I have a call into our family practice Dr for a call back on this same question.
