Lump On Head, Hard, Not Movable, Headache When Pressed

Hi there, I have a lump on the back of my head and its been there for around 2 years now. It s hard not squishy and can t be moved. When pressure is applied I get a migraine the following day or a small headache . It has not grown over the past year but has not got smaller. Whilst it grew I used to suffer frequent migraines yet they now have stopped. Any help would be helpful

Hi,

Thank you for posting your query.

The lump on the back of your head could be a tumour arising from the bone- an osteoid osteoma. It is a benign condition and is often harmless. However, please get it checked up by a doctor for confirmation. A simple X-ray of the skull can help in identifying this.

Headaches are most likely not directly linked to the lump.

In case you have frequent headaches associated with nausea or vomiting, it could be migraine. In addition, there may be increased sensitivity to sound or bright light. You may benefit with preventive therapy for migraine, with medications such as beta blockers, flunarizine, etc.

Best wishes,
Dr Sudhir Kumar MD DM (Neurology)
