I've Been In The Birth Control Alesse On And Off

I've been in the birth control Alesse on and off for a couple of years now and never had any problems. 3 weeks ago I decided to skip my period and started a new pack as soon as I was done taking the last pill before the "period" ones. It worked, I didn't have any bleeding the week I was suppose to have my period. But the week after I had small amounts of blood in my underwear, I just had to wear a small pad to control it, so this continued for two weeks. When it came time again to choose whether to skip my period again or just not take the sugar pills for 7 days I chose to start a new pack thinking the light bleeding would stop. I am now 3 days into the new pack and the blood is still there. It's like a dark brown discharge. Is this normal? What can I do to stop this?
