Is Weight Gain Normal While On Synthroid?

I take Synthroid for my under active thyroid. I gained weight when I first starting using it. The dose has been changed several times and I am now taking 88 mg. Everytime the dosage is changed I gain weight and I have not been able to get rid of it. I have gained 30 pounds in the past 2 1/2 years. Is this normal? Is it the medication? If I discontinue the meds will I lose the weight?? My feet have recently started bothering me. I have gone to the podiatrist and I have heel spurs and inflammation. I know the extra weight is not good for the feet either as well as I am tired of buying new clothes! I was never obese before and have never had a weight problem.

Gaining the weight is not due to the medicine taken for thyroid disease and it may be due to genetic reasons.It may be due to high calorie diet intake, You need to cut down on the high calorie diet, try some exercise, but do not stop the medicine.
