Is Using Mupirocin Safe For Redness Of Skin After Having Impetigo?

My Son had perianal strep and was first on Clindamycin for 10 days and then biaxin for 10 days. He also had impetigo and was given mupirocin for that. All of the impetigo is almost gone. The only thing left is he still has a red bottom. May I put mupirocin on it?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Yes, this can be used on the red area. Since it is topical, there would be minimal or no side effects.

Normally applied twice daily.

If there is no improvement then he may need reassessment from his doctor.

I hope this helps
