Is Use Of Narcotics For Pain Management A Cause For Concern?

I am concerned about the use of narcotics for pain management. I know a patient (not myself) who has a severely dislocated shoulder, and a history of 5 failed operations out of 7. The drug went from OxyContin, to Vicodin plus a Non-Steroid Anti-inflammatory. It will take some weeks until the patient can travel to receive a second opinion. Am I excessively fearing an addiction risk?

Hi,

Yes, it can be addiction, but slowly the drug can be tapered off as the clinical condition improves.
