Is There Any Relation Between Beta-blockers For Hypertension And Initiation Of Prostatism?

is there a relationship between beta-blockers for hypertension and initiation or worsening of prostatism? I am a physician, 69, and have been hypertensive for many years, on beta- and alpha-blockers as well as an ace inhibitor. Your opinion will be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

Initial scientific studies found that atenolol (beta adrenergic blocker ) lowers men's risk of intermediate-grade prostate cancer about in half, compared with men not taking atenolo.

It also appeared to significantly reduce the risk of low-grade prostate cancer, the findings showed.

However, more studies are required to confirm the efficacy of atenolol on large scale clinical trials.

Hope I have answered your queries. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
