Is There Any Alternative For Antidepressants If I Do Not Want To Take Them?

I have been on/off antidepressants for 10 years. They make me very sick - I don t metabolize medications very well. I am not going to kill myself but I feel like I want to die and I worry excessively. My psychiatrist has tried most medications and now wants to put me on hormones - I am 63 years old and I don t want to take medications. I am also a highly trained psychotherapist who has been through analysis. I don t want my friends to know that I am in distress. What alternatives do I have?

Hi
Thanks for using healthcare magic

In case, you do not want to take medicine, you can try life style modification in form of spending time with friends on weekend, morning or evening walk, share your feeling with someone on whom you can trust that mean catharsis etc. All these would help you to get psychological benefit. With them, there is no harm in taking antidepressant or hormonal therapy.

Thanks
