Is There A Possibility Of Contracting HIV With A Positive Result On P24 Test?

Hello Drs, i had un potecte anal sex with unknown status women, the third day dr gave PEP but stopped taking after 3days i did p24 test day 3 and was negative, i had fever, neck lymp pains from that time, i again did p24 after 3 weeks and showed negative..... i visited HIV specialist who did pysical assesmebt to me he told me based on the story and the assesment u don,t have the disaese - so he sent me several tests including blood pciture, ESR, PCR, all the results were out the ESR 6 and the total WBC 6.9.... while the PCR is the only one remaining thr Dr. rouled out and told me no need to wait the PCR as u don,t have the HIV...... pls advice me?

Welcome to HCM,

P 24 antigen of HIV is a test used to isolate the HIV virus as early as between 2-4 weeeks, the positive P 24 antigen is suggestive of HIV infection, as your test is negative for this you may not be having HIV infection.

You should test for CMIA index, which includes test for P 24 antigen and antibodies to HIV 1/2.

The test should be once again after 90 days of possible exposure to confirm the HIv infection. If this comes as negative it is 100% confirm that you are not having HIV infection.
