Is There A Connection Between Fluid In My Sons Ears And Gagging?
Ive just been told by an audiologist that my son 21 months, has fluid in his right ear. My son gags a lot, not on food or anything, just randomly gags (does not throw up). If there is fluid in his ear, does it drain - causing him to gag? Is there a connection?
Hello, its not the fluid in ear that causes the gag. but its the gag that causes the fluid in the ears. Reflux of food in food pipe is a major reason for edema or swelling around the eustachian tube opening (a tube which connects the back of the nose to the middle part of ear) and so there is poor ventilation in the middle part of ear and the fluid accumulates. You need to treat the reflux , by feeding every 2 hrly and burping the child and keep the head end of bed elevated during sleep . In doubt do reply
