Is The Isolated Systolic Hypertension Regimen Correct?

Hello. I am 75 and still work as a dentist. I have had essential hypertension for about 40 years and have taken 5 mg amlodipine qd in the morning and and 75 mg irbesartan qd at bedtime for the last 10 years. This has controlled it until recently when I was diagnosed with isolated systolic hypertension by my cardiologist. I am controlling it by taking the amlodipine in the early morning and at noon, followed by the irbesartan at bedtime. My readings stay at 140-150 systolic and 60-70 diastolic. Before I took the extra 5 mg amlodipine at noon my systolic was spiking to 180. I want your opinion on my regimen. Thanks.

Hi. Amlodipine is a good drug for the elderly. Your blood pressure is controlled with the regimen you are taking. But if I were your doctor, I'd suggest you take Amlodipine be -12 hourly and take the sartan in the afternoon. Later you can try reducing the sartan. Trust this answers your question.
