Is The Infection In The Gut Caused By Reaction To Medication?

Hi 62 yo old male who has had 11 spinal surgeries. I developed a staph infection in my spine late 2015. Had debride surgery, etc and infectious disease doctor put me on 2,000 mg Keflex daily. 500 Am / 500 pm. I have developed a raised rash and sever itching on back, shoulder, scalp. I am getting the run around from the inf. Dis. Doctor and dermatologist. Finally got a nasal swab done to see if it is staph. My gut is saying its a reaction to the medication. That is all I really want to know. Bottom line, until this gets figured out, is there any old remedy to keep this at bay or at least so I can sleep. Thank you in advance for any info you may be able to provide. Have a safe and happy 4th. Bob Stark YYYY@YYYY Just in case I can t find this site again. lol

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

The bowel disturbance is not due to side effect of antibiotic.. but it's lactobacilli deterioration following antibiotic. This allow other pathogens to flourish &cause loose motions/digestion problems. You should continue having very light food. Drink lot of boiled water with ORS powder to maintain electrolyte balance.

Add lactobacillus preparation orally to revive these friendly bacteria. They in turn would protect gut epithelium healthy. This way you should see positive improvement in 3 days. If not, consult your family physician for specific treatment for the secondary infection.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
