Is Taking Provera And Utovlan Advisable For Heavy Vaginal Bleeding While On Mirena?
Hi. I am 46 years old and have fibroids in the uterus, severe endometriosis growing in the muscle of what the gynecologist have described as a large uterus. I have no children. Ihad a hystesoscopy 4 weeks ago and had 2 polyps removed from the uterus and the Mirena coil inserted to help reduce my very heavy bleedings which have lasted up to 2 months at times and had given me anemia. I am being patient with the Mirena coil as I have been spotting most days with some heavier bleeding others. I have been advised that this is normal for 3-6 months until things settle. Imhav also been advised to take either Provera or Utovlan tablets if the bleeding gets heavier. I am unsure which one is best and how many days can I take them for. Please any advice??? Also what would be the best dosage since I have the Mirena coil too. A million thanks !

The Provera containing medroxyprogesterone acetate can be safely consumed in recommended dosages as 2.5 mg once or twice daily as per the prescription of your OBGYN even though you have minera coil inside the uterus. The usual duration of therapy ranges from 3 months up to 6-9 months depending upon the clinical response. Have to do regular self breast examination for any possible lump development during the course of therapy.
