General & Family Physician 's  Response
Dear Ani, Hi & Welcome.
Yes, it is a safe drug for the treatment of PCOD.
Obimet (Metformin) is an insulin sensitizer which makes your body more sensitive to insulin & is frequently used for PCOD. It helps more in case you are overweight. It helps to regularize your cycle and also reduces the body weight. You will benefit from it.
It is quite safe to take this medication if you are trying to become pregnant, it is safe to take it during the period of pregnancy also.
Since you did not mention your age, assuming you to be 25 yrs old with the given body weight and height your BMI is 26.63 kg/m2 (Overweight)
You should reduce your weight to below 160 pounds or in the range of
118 - 159 pounds.
Hope I could answer your query.
Best of luck.
