Is Taking Ciprodex Drops Safe For Ruptured Ear Drum?

I started off with the flu and ended up getting an ear infection which i got antibiotics for. However, due to the amount of pressure on my eardrum, it ruptured. My doctor then prescribed ciprodex ear drops, i am taking them twice a day for about three days now. I have lost majority of my hearing in that ear ever since i started the drops and i was just wondering if that is normal?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain loss of hearing after putting ear drops is not due to the ear drops but it is due to perforation in the ear drum..
In case if the infection in ear has led to perforation in ear drum then only antibiotic ear drops will not resolve the problem..

You should consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and otoscopy can help in diagnosis and he can advise you antibiotics to be taken orally like Augmentin, anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen, steroid and antibiotic ear drops, decongestant nasal sprays..
Oral intake of steroids can also be advised..
You can also be advised to avoid exposure to very loud sounds..
Avoid swimming to prevent water exposure..
Avoid picking of ear and popping..
In case if still the perforation does not resolve Tympanoplasty can be advised..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
