Is Swelling And Severe Pain In Foot And Toes After Hip Repair Surgery Normal?

My son was in a mva and shattered his hip requiring lengthy surgery to repair, happened almost 4weeks ago. He is now having swelling and severe pain in his foot and toes(same side as hip), and even going to er, can not get any relief from the pain. Tried heating pad, elevating, ibuprophen, nothing is helping. ER Dr. called it plebitis. Please help, as I am concerned he may start taking more Hydracodone than he should to stop the pain.

Hi Welcome to healhcaremagic
After going through your query I concluded that you may be having thrombophlebitis, venous thrombosis or circulatory disturbance. For definitely knowing its cause you can get arterial and venous angiography of leg. Mobilization exercises and analgesic such as ibuprofen relieve pain. If pain is not relieved by these then strong analgesic such as tramadol can be taken. You can discuss with your treating Doctor about it. Hope your query get answered. If you have any further questions then don't hesitate to writing to us . I will be happy to help you.
