Is Swelling And Numbness In The Leg A Cause For Concern?

My car was struck by an SUV t-bone style into the driver s seat 3 days ago. I was in the passenger seat and have a very large hematoma on my thigh and another on my shin. I was treated in the ER and no obvious fractures showed up in initial x-rays. Have been taking a prescription anti-inflammatory. There is still considerable swelling, it feels tight and slightly warmer than the rest of my leg. It has begun to spread out and change color, which seems like normal healing, but I am concerned about the swelling and the numbness. Is this something that needs immediate attention?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Especially with the numbness, I would be concerned that there could be increased pressure in your leg that is causing irritation of your nerves and could get to the point that it restricts blood flow.

I think it would be a good idea to get re-evaluated now that it is a few days since the accident and make sure this isn't happening and that otherwise, it looks like nothing was missed and that you are healing normally.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
