General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

The prolonged standing or walking would cause the blood to pool in the ankle and lower part of the legs which would lead to swelling.

If you get an opportunity at all to sit, you should sit with your leg elevated. In addition, you need to consider compression stockings or socks.

In some persons, the swelling can progress but this may not be the case for you.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Michelle Gibson James, General & Family Physician
