Is Squishy Noise In Knee Related To Diagnosed Arthritis?

Hi. I was told by a doctor years ago that I have arthritis in both knees. I can hear and feel them crunching. My question is sometimes I hear a squishy noise in my knees when I go up or down the stairs. It s that related to the arthritis? Or do I have some new thing I need to have checked? I m 43 year old female, walk couple times a week, little overweight (10lbs)
