Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is it normal for a baby to sleep too much?? My little boy is 13months old and sleeps from 9pm till between 8am and 10am. Has his breakfast and then come 12 he has another sleep for 2hours or sometimes 3hours. Wakes up till about 5pm and has another 2hours, maybe 3hours. Is this normal? Or is he sleeping too much??
Every child has a different schedule of wakefulness and sleeping. If what you are saying is true, then your year-old son is definitely sleeping like a newborn baby! You should get him evaluated by a pediatrician to rule out any possible illnesses, but if he is active and all right in all respects, you should stop worrying. The key to a child's health is the way he imbibes intellectual information and the way he develops mentally. If, therefore, there are no issues in his behaviour or development, you can continue to enjoy life while he sleeps. ;-)

P.S. On the flip side, excessive sleep may indicate illness, in particular "sleeping sickness", but this is seen mostly in Saharan Africa and is caused by the bite of the tse-tse fly.
