General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I have read your description and understand your concern.
Postinor 2 is an emergency contraceptive pill.
The pill needs to be taken within 72 hours of unprotected intercourse to prevent accidental or unwanted pregnancy. Earlier it is taken, the protection seems to be better.
The pill would prevent pregnancy by causing withdrawal bleeding within 3 weeks from the day of its intake.
If the bleeding doesn't happen by 3 weeks, you need to take a urine pregnancy test and seek medical attention promptly. The chances of failure of such pill to prevent pregnancy is about 10 to 15%.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
