Is Pregnancy Possible Despite Taking Unwanted 72 Pill?

Me and my girlfriend had a little genital contact on 19th which was 4th day of her periods. Although I did not ejaculated inside her vagina, She took unwanted 72 within few hours. Now its 29th of next month still she is not getting her periods i.e. Already 13 days late. What should we do now? Are there any chances of pregnancy? She also had spotting 8-9 days after pill.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I have read your description and understand your concern.
Unwanted 72 is an emergency contraceptive pill, which needs to be taken within 72 hours of unprotected intercourse to prevent unwanted or accidental pregnancy.
What your partner has done is right by taking the pill within few hours.
The pill would prevent pregnancy by causing breakthrough bleeding within 3 weeks from the day of intake of the pills.
In case bleeding does not happen in the form of periods by 3 weeks, you need to seek medical attention immediately after taking a urine pregnancy test, as there could be chances of failure of pill to protect.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
